There is no story voice quite like Naomi's: charming, witty, down-home, and full of joy. When Naomi transports you to her Appalachian home, you can feel the mountain breezes, taste the homemade 'funeral pie,' and smell her grandma's pet skunk. And while you are there, she will tickle your funny bone and open your heart to connect with the love that lives in each of her stories. ~Steve Tate, President, North Carolina Storytelling Guild
Naomi’s stories reveal the value of the mundane (from mundus, meaning the world). It used to be that stories and fairy tales focused on princesses and castles, to turn the attention of miserable peasants away from their daily suffering. By contrast, Naomi takes the mundane—toads in a puddle on a dirt road, skunks captured by a courageous Granny, gerbils dancing in their cage—and makes it glorious. “This is what life is like,” she tells us, presenting the daily occurrences in such a way that we look at the details of our lives with new eyes. She does this with simplicity and humor but, at the end, we discovery the depth of her story, the emotion and
reality of the quotidian—and that matters to us all. ~ Katerina Whitley, Author and Dramatist
